What are we learning in Room 19?

Math
We will start off  in Chapter one with number sense. We will learn about place value to the millions. We will learn how to write numbers in standard form, expanded forms and word form. Then we will round numbers to a million.
The second chapter in math is Addition and Subtraction with and without regrouping.

ELA
Our theme for the first six weeks is People change all the time. They change as they get older, as they discover new things, and as they learn more about the world around them. Change helps people grow. We will read My Diary from Here to There, The Adventures of Ali Baba Bernstein, Kids Reporters at Work, The Astronaut and the Onion, and Because of Winn-Dixie.

History
Our first History unit is The Golden State—Our Home. We will learn all about California geography. And we will explore the question, how do people adapt to where they live?

Science
In the science lab the students will study electricity and magnetism. We will learn about circuits. We will discover how magnetic poles repel each other and unlike poles attract each other. We will discuss how compasses use magnets to tell directions. We will learn how an eclectic current produces a magnetic field. We will discuss how electromagnets are used in many common household items.
